Fad-Diets

As most of us know, there is a direct connection between dieting and losing weight. And while we’ve all learned of traditional “hole in the spoon” eating plans, there are also fad diets which have become rather popular in the last couple of years without any proof of their efficiency.

In that name, we’ll take a quick look into fad diets in order to give you nine reasons why they are complete nonsense.

1. Unhealthy

Certain eating plans will have you consume nothing but raisins for three days, then they’ll switch you to full course meals five times per day. In other words, these fad diets are:

  • Bad for health
  • Provide poor nutrition
  • May cause unwanted health issues

2. Against Common Sense

You don’t have to be a nutritionist or a food expert to know when something is simply wrong.

Many times fad diets promote eating a single type of food in order to lose tremendous amounts of weight in a very short time. Anyone with an ounce of brain can tell that this is crazy, for two reasons:

  • It simply isn’t possible
  • It Isn’t good for your body

3. They Rarely Work

Did you know that there are literally hundreds of fad diets? Nonetheless, that doesn’t necessarily mean that they ever helped anyone in the long run.

Fad diets:

  • Work in only a few cases
  • When they do work, they show poor results

4. No Proof

Most fad eating plans actually have no scientific evidence to back them up, which means there’s no proof that these actually do anything except make you hungry and sad.

These include:

  • The 7-Day Diet
  • Cabbage Soup Diet
  • Fruit Diet
  • Many others

5. Expensive

While some fad diets tell you that you should eat as little as possible, others will make you:

  • Purchase expensive products online
  • Buy an expensive book
  • Pay for the shipment

And even after all that hassle, you still won’t get the results you desire.

6. The Yo-Yo Effect

If you shed a lot of fat in only a few weeks, you can bet that you won’t stay that way forever. Fad diets are known to cause the yo-yo effect, which returns all the pounds you lost (and then some) right after you stop dieting.

7. Downright Insane

We can’t say that every fad diet is like this, but there are certain plans that are just crazy.

Take Bretharianism for example:

  • No food
  • No exercise
  • Breathing
  • Water

You think anyone in their right mind should do this?

8. Bad For Your Psyche

Since they cause no real benefits and often leave people craving for food, fad diets are also linked to depression.

9. Side Effects

Aside from the yo-yo effect, fad diets can cause issues like:

  • Hair loss
  • Vitamin deficiency
  • Dry skin
  • Joint pain
